Remembering a kindred spirit.

I promise, no one is dead. Really.

Its probable that no one will ever read this, but if they do, they'll learn that friends are beautiful things that help one grow, and love.

Saturday night marked the bitter sweet end to my debate partnership with my dear friend Ulzii. Honestly, I couldn't ask for more. From food, to foreign princes, to crazy cases about ballerinas, to food, to outfit mishaps, to food, to laughter, to food, and finally, to the St. Louis tournament. What started out as friends being partners blossomed into friends being, well, really really good friends. Occasionally, it even got to the creepy point of knowing what each other was thinking... Especially if it was about food ( cheese specifically) Ulzii didn't just have fun with me however, she healed me. After last year's painful debacle I lost my passion. All I could see was corruption, judgements, and darkness. I'm very certain that without her patient and cheerful spirit, holding me up when I couldn't stand up on my own, I would have lost all hope, and quit completely. Ulzii gave me a gift no one else could. Don't get me wrong, everyone has been wonderful at loving me throughout the year, but Ulzii truly healed me. She reminded me of an important lesson: It doesn't matter what other people say you are, but rather what you know you are. I know that may seem cliche, but its something I really lost sight of. Ulzii didn't just win at debate this year, she won at life. I truly believe that a true friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and sings it back to you when you've forgotten the words. Ulzii was that friend. She gave me back something I had lost, and she lived up to her full potential that has always been there. I'm proud of you Ulzii. Thank you

Love,

Mary
